In Preparation for Avengers: Endgame
*(Picture taken from Disney Movie Rewards)
About a year ago, I'd planned to rewatch the MCU, in order of release dates, so as to prepare for the cinematic event, Avengers: Infinity War. But... that didn't happen. Having started college that same year, and dealing with social anxiety, stress, and home sickness, if I wanted to go Thursday opening night, I'd have to get homework done ahead of time, something that I'd kept postponing. So, alas, no rewatch, but I've seen all the MCU movies so often that I had no problems.
This year, I decided to try again. Originally planning to start in January, so as to possibly also watch Agents of Shield, Agent Carter, and the Netflix Marvel series. But that didn't happen. I wanted to start the rewatch in March, on my birthday, but my love of musicals won out, I ending up watching Hairspray, The Sound of Music, The Greatest Showman, and a bootleg of Dear Evan Hansen (sorry Pasek and Paul).
Having bought my Avengers: Endgame ticket this Friday, when going to watch Shazam (great movie by the way, and used to exclude the DCU in favor of the MCU), I decided to take my rewatch seriously. While I know there is a Marvel timeline, in which you start with Captain America: The First Avenger, followed by Captain Marvel and so on, I favor the release date order, following the Marvel movies as they came to the fans. And, having been Team Iron Man, I like starting out with Tony Stark's origin story over Steve Roger's.
In case you need a refresher, here's the order of what is being called The Infinity Saga:
